I was taking lessons from a friend of my brothers who was a jazz player by choice. He played us the demo on the way to a gig before it had drums on it. He was brilliant. Man, what an education to see all those people in their prime. The very first one, and I had to beg my older brother to take me, was Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. It was perfect timing and what a fun tour. After a year with him, I spent some time in Boston with a keyboard player named Webster Lewis, who was phenomenal.
